As you will know, a basic understanding of Mathematics is vital for everyday modern life and a good qualification in Maths is important for entry into higher education and is a basic requirement for many professions.
We are also individuals, with differing abilities and progress at varying speeds. One size does not really fit all when it comes to MathsThe school system in England has a very good structured approach to teaching maths and caters for all levels of ability. However, with large class sizes, even the most able teacher cannot give a great deal of individual attention to their pupils - there is just not sufficient time to do so.
Maths seems to be a bit like Marmite you either love it or hate it! Some students have a natural ability and combined with a good teacher, just fly through the system and achieve high grades. Others are not so fortunate and can get 'turned off', often by just not understanding some aspects of the subject. As maths builds on previous work, any gaps in understanding or knowledge can easily block further progress.
Private tuition can help students to achieve their potential, be it a good C at GCSE or an A* for high achievers at both GCSE and GCE advanced level. Private tuition can focus on areas of misunderstanding or weakness to allow rapid progress.
